I heard there was once a cat who was almost dragged in the river by a trout. -taps the water before putting both paws in it, then turns my head around and sticks my tongue out at Cinderkit to say I could handle the river's temperature-
-slips on the pebbles and falls in, then claws my way back to shore as quickly as possible, glaring back at the water and my wet fur- I don't like it!!
-shakes my head and purrs, sending droplets of water flying at Cinderkit- I bet they couldn't swim, like you! -leaps in the river, then attempts to swim back, my head held high-
Thistlekit, you might find it easier to swim back if you go with the current, instead of trying to fight against it. You won't waste nearly as much energy that way. -crouches, preparing to leap in after him if he can't do it-
-uses the river to half-drift back to shore, trying to raise my spine to keep my thick fur from dragging me down, then looks back at Cinderkit triumphantly- ...Ha... -pants- I...did it! -collapses from exhaustion-
-nods- He'll be fine, he just needs warmth and rest. -curls my tail around Thistlekit- If you want to head back to camp now, that's fine. There will be plenty of time for training later.
Of course. Let's head back for now, then. -picks up Thistlekit by his scruff, then starts to head back to camp, indicating for Cinderkit and Whistlekit to follow-
-breathes in the scent of the river- We're here. Get used to the river. Take a moment to sniff it, touch it, look at it. Ok?
ReplyDeleteOoh! It's so pretty! -rushes to the river and sticks a paw in- And cold! -shivers and scrambles back to Hummingwing-
ReplyDelete-purrs- You'll get used to it, I'm sure. -licks Cinderkit's head-
ReplyDelete-cautiously approaches the river, the fur along my spine rising- Is...Is it really safe?
ReplyDeleteI dunno, maybe. If it isn't, that's what makes it fun, right? -purrs-

ReplyDelete-runs over to Thistlekit- Really? Was it a really big one?
ReplyDelete-slips on the pebbles and falls in, then claws my way back to shore as quickly as possible, glaring back at the water and my wet fur- I don't like it!!
ReplyDeleteI dunno. If it was, I'm sure I can catch one bigger than it! -narrows my eyes and looks at the water expectantly-
ReplyDeleteDo you think the cat got water in their face? -splashes some water in Thistlekit's face and purrs- Like that!
ReplyDelete-shakes my head and purrs, sending droplets of water flying at Cinderkit- I bet they couldn't swim, like you! -leaps in the river, then attempts to swim back, my head held high-

ReplyDelete-nods- When Thistlekit gets enough sleep, can we come back again?
ReplyDeleteOf course. Let's head back for now, then. -picks up Thistlekit by his scruff, then starts to head back to camp, indicating for Cinderkit and Whistlekit to follow-
ReplyDeleteCome on, Whistlekit! -follows Hummingwing-
